Co-creating on-the-road ICT solutions to promote Sustainable Tourism in World Heritage Sites

University of Turku, 19.-31.8.2018

The Department of Future Technologies at University of Turku is designing a unique learning experience in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites, established at USI - Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland). The Summer School addresses practitioners and scholars in the fields of heritage, tourism, communication and digital technologies, and it is to be held in Finland from 20 to 31 August 2018. Participants will be ‘immersed’ in Finnish World Heritage Sites, working with local stakeholders (e.g. municipalities, administrations, computer scientists, companies) to co-design Information and Communication Technologies solutions to enhance tourists’ experience at those sites. Jointly, they will address the challenges of today to improve the experience of tomorrow. The main classroom is a conference bus, which will move participants along the roads of Finland to visit heritage sites, e.g. Rauma, Verla.
