The International Conference, Modernism for the Future

12-13th September, Kaunas, Lithuania

The International Conference „Modernism for the Future“ (12-13 September, Kaunas) is dedicated to exploring the diversity, commonality and particularity of modernist architectural heritage of European modernism during the 1920s and 1930s. However, urban heritage is not a static monument, just as historical research is not aimed only at the past. This conference is therefore designed to not only enrich historical knowledge of the past, but also inform the present and raise people’s expectations of the future. Adopting a holistic approach, the event will explore the value and potential of designations such as the European Heritage Label, European Capital of Culture or UNESCO World Heritage status and their future role in architectural preservation, heritage interpretation and urban development.
